Membership - Ladies
Porters Park has a thriving Ladies’ section with approximately 90 members of
all ages. New members are always welcome.
Tuesday is Ladies’ competition day when club competitions are played, including Stableford, medal,
better ball, knock-out and foursomes games.
Our lady members have played for the county and captained the county team. Ladies’ teams have won the
Hertfordshire Club Championship, the Inter County Finals, the County Ladies’ Inter-Club Tournament and the
Pearson Trophy.
Our ‘big days’ are the Lady Captain’s Day in June, two Invitation Days (Spring and Autumn) and the
Christmas Fayre. There are also Spring and Autumn meetings, which involve a medal round in the morning,
lunch and fun competitions in the afternoon followed by dinner in the evening with prize giving. We also
hold a Ladies’ Open and Ladies’ Centenary Scratch Open.
Club teams
We have two teams in the County Scratch League and each year we compete in the Pearson Trophy - a
handicap competition - against other clubs in Hertfordshire. There are also opportunities to play
surrounding courses with our friendly match fixtures.
Business ladies
Over 20 business ladies play at the weekend, when they also have the opportunity to play club
competitions and club matches.
Bridge team
The club has a thriving bridge section with three teams playing matches against other local golf
clubs.
Ladies’ academy
Each year, the club’s head professional David Gleeson runs a Ladies’ golf academy course for those who
have not played golf before or who would like to come back to the game. This involves six, weekly one-hour,
group sessions covering the fundamentals of golf.
