Membership - Juniors

Porters Park has 70 junior members and new members are always welcome.

Juniors from Porters Park have represented Hertfordshire, won the County Championship, played for England, captained England and won the South East England Championship, the English Schoolboys Championship, the English Boys County Championship, the County Girls’ Championship and the British Boys’ Championship.

This has all been possible because Porters Park is a caring and nurturing environment for young golfers. The course, the quality of the practice facilities - and the quality of the PGA junior tuition that our professionals are able to provide - make Porters Park the ideal club for junior golfers.

We run monthly medal and Stableford competitions and our juniors also compete in matches against other members (such as the Tigers, Ladies, Foxes and Scratch Team) and against other clubs, in the East Herts League (four-ball, better-ball matchplay) and the Ver League (singles matchplay). This gives them plenty of matchplay experience and encourages team spirit. In 2009, our junior team were champions of the East Herts League. In 2010, they won the Hertfordshire Club Championship, making us the ‘Club of Clubs’, and they represented the county at the national championships.

The club runs regular ‘introduction to golf’ sessions and it has held an annual Juniors’ Open since 1952.

Juniors are allowed to play anytime during the week and after 11.30am (November-March) or after 12 Midday on weekends and bank holidays. Forthcoming events are listed on the junior noticeboard.

Pre-junior golf (under 10 years)

Porters Park’s pre-junior section meets two Sundays a month from 10.30am-11.30am. We have a good mixture of boys and girls and there is great enthusiasm from them all.

Welfare

The club has a Child Welfare Officer (Peter Marshall) and policies are in place to ensure all junior golfers are protected and kept safe from harm.
